Talpos Today November 2006

Dear Friends and family,

Greetings from cold Romania!  Last night we had our first snowfall of this season.  The snow is beautiful but not very welcome for the builders of the fellowship center.

That’s right, for those of you who don’t receive my e-mail updates let me give you the good news…We have started the next phase of the fellowship center.  Thank the Lord!

At the writing of this letter the men have been officially working for 10 days.  The first week the workers were here from 8-6, Monday through Saturday.  In that time, they prepared the foundation for laying block, laid block and even were able to pour some of the supporting poles.

Then it was time for Daylight Savings Time.  With the change of the clock we also changed the schedule.  The men now come 7-5, Monday through Saturday.  Until yesterday, the weather hadn’t been much of a problem. However, yesterday the men had to quit early because of the snow.  But this morning they were back at the job, working hard to get things done.

Again, I have been so pleased with the work of the contractor.  He is the same man that was “the boss” when we poured the foundation.  He has years of experience and knows his way around a construction site :) .  It was so wonderful how God led us to him.

With all the materials and equipment that we are using, we felt it was best to have a guard stay at the site in the evenings.  This is his little house that he tries to keep warm in.  Would you stay there all night for $11?

We thank God that the work is progressing.  He has been so good to us.  He has given the men strength and help as they work and we haven’t had any major accidents or incidents.  Thank the Lord!

Right smack in the middle of all this busyness I had a birthday and the Hausman family didn’t let me forget it :).  Laura prepared a wonderful supper and some yummy cupcakes (with mint, my favorite :) and they all came over to celebrate me getting a year older.  It was an enjoyable time for all of us.  Thanks again Hausman family for your kindness!

Brother and Sister Hausman have been such a big help during these past two weeks.   Every morning, Daryl has been picking up and dropping off the contractor and a few of the men.  He also has been working with the men and is keeping an eye on things.  I of course have not had any experience with building :) , so his expertise has been very helpful.  Laura has also been working hard, but her work has been in the kitchen.  Every day she has been sending some tasty bake goods for the men to enjoy. Thanks so much for all your help!

I also want to thank you for your prayers and support.  Without you, we couldn’t be doing what we are doing right now.  Your giving has made this center possible.  Thank you again and God bless you!

I would ask you to please continue to pray for the workers that God will give them strength and help as they work.  Also pray for their safety during the next few weeks.  In addition, I would ask you to pray that the Lord will continue to give us some good weather.  Also please pray that God will take control of the atmosphere.  We need God’s presence as we work.  We want God’s name to be glorified in all that we do.

Thank you in advance for your prayers and support.  I will keep you updated as things progress.  You also can check out the Hausman’s blog to see almost daily updates.  In the spring we plan to continue construction and if you are interested in coming to help, Brother Hausman is going to be responsible for setting up work teams.  You can contact him at dhausman@zappmobile.ro.  Hope to see you next year!

The orphans are doing well.  Last Saturday they were at my house and they wanted to do some work.  So, the boys brought in some wood and the girls helped clean up outside.  They are always eager to help when they can.

Christmas is just around the corner and many of you have written me and asked when you should have your donation in for the Christmas packs.  If you have felt God directing you to give towards the Romanian Christmas fund, please send your contribution to H.I.M. by December 8th.  That will give us enough time to purchase and put together the packs.  Please pray and ask God what He would like you to give this Christmas and allow God to use your gift to make Christmas special for so many Romanian people.

Thank you again for all that you have done and are doing for the work here in Romania.  I pray that God will bless you

In His Service,
Sally

Some would gather money
Along the path of life.
Some would gather roses
And rest from earthly strife.
But I would gather children
From among the thorns of sin;
I would seek a golden curl
And a freckled, toothless grin.
For money cannot enter
Into the land of endless day,
And roses that are gathered
Soon will wilt along the way,
But oh, the laughing children,
As I cross the sunset sea,
And the gates swing wide to heaven
I can take them in with me.
