Talpos Today September 2008
Dear friends and family,
Greetings from chilly, rainy Talpos! Summer has passed us by and autumn weather has officially come to our part of Romania. Thank the Lord for a wonderful summer filled with God’s blessings.
One of the great things that happened this summer was that Dorin graduated from High School. I was privileged to be able to part of this celebration. It was the first High School graduation in Romania that I have been to, so it was interesting to see the differences between a graduation in America and in Romania. It looks like Dorin will be starting a trade school in October. Please pray for him as he continues to seek God’s will for his life. It is wonderful to see how God has been helping Dorin to grow in his faith. Over the years he has grown from a little boy to a young man and I believe that God has great things for him in the future.
We also had 2 other orphans graduate: Elvi and Georgi graduated from kindergarten and today was actually their first day of school. Another exciting day! It was in fact exciting for all the kids. They were up early, ready to start their day. I can hardly believe that all of the children, besides Marius are now in school. Boy how they are growing up!
I am happy to report that we have been officially using the downstairs of the fellowship center since the middle of July. Thank the Lord! I am meeting with the teens at least twice a week and also with the children at least twice a week. We have been playing volleyball, soccer, dodge ball, having relays, races, etc. We also have been singing and having a devotional each time we gather. There have been many new faces in both groups and it has been wonderful to see the response to these get-togethers.

With the beginning of school I would have liked to have the library/computer room available. However, there have not been sufficient finances to have the shelves, desks and tables made, nor to purchase computer systems. I am sure that this room will be a positive feature and encouragement to study. It will also be a great way for me to get to know more of the children and youth from the village who normally don’t attend church and through these relations open a door for future ministry with them.
Lord willing, my plan is to move into the center before the cold weather sets in. It is more cost efficient to live there since the center will already be heated. Living there will make it a little easier regarding ministry. Also, once we begin having more things at the center (eventually we hope to have instruments, computers, sports equipment, etc.) it will be much more attractive to the thieves in the area. With me living there, it will keep the possibility of breaking in much lower. I plan on emptying out the mission house (where I live now) of anything valuable, so as not to have anything stolen. Right now I am waiting for the kitchen cabinets and countertop to be made and installed in the apartment. Once this is completed, then I will be able to begin moving.
Thanks to the giving of a kind brother, the storage building is being built. The walls are up and we are waiting for the concrete to set a little more before we put the roof on. To this generous brother, “Thank you so much for your sacrificial giving and may God continue to bless you!
One of the main reasons we built the storage building is to be able to deposit the pellets we will be using for heating. It is much more economical to purchase a one year supply of pellets versus having them brought every few weeks. At this time I can’t be sure of the amount of pellets we will need to heat the whole building. After this winter I will have a better idea of consumption. However, according to the calculations in the manual regarding what we need to heat the size of the building we have, it looks like a one year supply is going to cost us around $3,800. If you are interested in helping in any way with this expense, please send your donation to H.I.M. marked clearly for the fellowship center.

We also began working on some simple landscaping at the center. Ionut, Tibi and I prepared and leveled out the ground on one side of the center and planted some grass seed. Lord willing, in a few weeks we will begin seeing some nice little green sprouts because of our labors :-).
I want to again thank you all for your prayers and support. God has been helping and giving me strength. Without the prayers of God’s people I wouldn’t be able to do what I am doing. God bless you!
In His Service,
Sally
Some would gather money
Along the path of life.
Some would gather roses
And rest from earthly strife.
But I would gather children
From among the thorns of sin;
I would seek a golden curl
And a freckled, toothless grin.
For money cannot enter
Into the land of endless day,
And roses that are gathered
Soon will wilt along the way,
But oh, the laughing children,
As I cross the sunset sea,
And the gates swing wide to heaven
I can take them in with me.
